The Motown Sound goes mobile via Verizon
Verizon Wireless announced an agreement with Universal Music Enterprises to introduce a series of exclusive Motown Records-themed mobile music promotions in celebration of both the fabled soul label's 50th anniversary and Black History Month. Each week during February, Verizon's V Cast Music service will spotlight a different set of full-track downloads featuring Motown acts including the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Temptations and the Jackson 5--the sets (Motown Icons, Motown for Lovers, Motown Number Ones and The Ladies of Motown) will offer classics like "Shop Around," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "ABC" and "I Second That Emotion."
In addition to full tracks, V Cast Music will introduce Motown ringtones including remixes and special edits exclusive to the mobile platform. Verizon Wireless will also offer Motown-themed ringback packages spanning vintage hits and more recent chart entries. Verizon adds that all subscribers who turn to its V Cast Song ID service to identify any Motown recording will be entered for a chance to win a trip to see the Temptations in Las Vegas.
