Motricity targets Latin American mobile market with Supportcomm deal
Motricity will collaborate with Brazilian value-added services company Supportcomm to offer mobile data solutions to Latin American operators including Claro, Vivo, TIM and Oi. Supportcomm will implement Motricity's mCore platform, which includes both mobile media management, metrics and analytics support as well as tools to develop, manage and deploy mobile marketing and advertising campaigns. The mCore platform bolsters Supportcomm's existing B2B and B2C solutions portfolio, which includes services powering mobile payments, subscription downloads, SMS infotainment and Interactive Voice Response initiatives.
The Supportcomm deal should boost Motricity's sagging bottom line. Last week the firm reported second quarter losses of $4.3 million, less than the $11.6 million net loss reported a year earlier--in addition, the mobile content services firm projected third quarter revenues of $31.5 million to $32.5 million, far off analyst forecasts of $45 million. Motricity blamed its weak results on increased competition in the international market and closing its acquisition of mobile ad company Adenyo later than expected. With its stock down 42 percent over the last year, Motricity is currently seeking a replacement for CFO Allyn Hebner, and the company has removed chief strategy and marketing and development officer Jim Ryan.
