Mozilla debuts Firefox for Windows Mobile alpha 2
Open-source software developer Mozilla announced the second alpha milestone of its Firefox browser for the Windows Mobile 6 platform. Codenamed "Fennec," the mobile browser is still intended solely for testing purposes--Mozilla notes that while the browser reflects existing Firefox design principles, preserving features like the "awesome bar" and add-on support, it also boasts touchscreen support and related interactions appropriate for mobile phones and other handheld devices. New in Fennec alpha 2: Improved panning performance, a newly designed theme, built-in JavaScript error console, improved add-on support, numerous bug fixes and improved UI polish.
According to Mozilla, its aim with Fennec alpha 2 is to get wider feedback on the user experience, engage Mozilla community teams including localizers and testers, secure comments from web developers and encourage programmers to port existing add-ons and invent new ones for mobile devices. Users and developers without access to WinMo phones may also download desktop versions of Fennec for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
