Mozilla finalizes Firefox 4 for Android
A week after issuing the release candidate version of its Firefox 4 browser for Android and Maemo, open-source software development initiative Mozilla unveiled the official release edition, available for download from Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market.
Built on the same technology platform as Mozilla's desktop browser, Firefox 4 for Android touts speeds up to three times greater than the stock Android browser and promises enhancements like faster scrolling, improved responsiveness with Firefox Sync (which offers a seamless experience between the desktop and smartphone) and other user experience upgrades. Firefox 4 for Android also offers thousands of Add-ons to enable users to further customize their mobile web experience.
In addition to improved developer tools like CSS, Canvas and SVG, Firefox 4 for Android supports HTML5, enabling developers to integrate location-aware browsing, device orientation, accelerometer, desktop notifications and other features. Mozilla adds the JavaScript engine incorporates the new JägerMonkey JIT compiler as well as enhancements to the existing TraceMonkey JIT and SpiderMonkey's interpreter, translating to faster page-load speed and improved performance of web apps and games.
