MTV, Amp'd Mobile in content development deal
More from CES: MTV Networks and MVNO service Amp'd Mobile will announce a new partnership to jointly develop original made-for-mobile content for exclusive broadcast via the Amp'd network. The two companies will create and distribute original mobile series to air on the Amp'd Live portal's MTV Networks channels; MTVN will retain the rights to develop and cross-program the properties for traditional television and other media platforms. The agreement follows on the recent premiere of the Amp'd exclusive "Sucks Less with Kevin Smith," an mtvU/UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television series documenting the "Clerks" director's efforts to teach the university's first-ever mobile media production class. MTV Networks' parent company Viacom is also an Amp'd investor.
"MTV Networks and Amp'd Mobile are building an entirely new model for the creation, development and distribution of short-form programming for consumers to access on their handset," said MTV Networks senior VP of mobile media Creg Clayman in a prepared statement. "This process also will help us cultivate an entirely new generation of young filmmakers who are inspired to create works of art that can live on any screen."
