MTV, Intercasting team on mobile social networking
MTV Networks announced it is collaborating with mobile social networking firm Intercasting to develop a mobile social platform around the cable giant's Latino-focused network MTV Tr3s. Dubbed Con3xion, the service heralds Intercasting's first partnership with a major entertainment brand--its Anthem platform will enable MTV Tr3s viewers to view photos, send and receive messages, post comments and search profiles via mobile handset. MTV Networks and Intercasting added they will develop mobile social networking initiatives for other MTV properties in the months ahead.
According to MTV Networks' Slivered Screen research, 63 percent of Latinos own media-enabled mobile handsets, compared to 46 percent of non-Latinos. In addition, Latinos are 23 percent more likely to view mobile video content. "We have seen huge consumption of mobile content in the Latino community with over 60 percent growth in video streams for the MTV Tr3s mobile channel every month in the last quarter," said MTV Networks executive VP of digital distribution and business development Greg Clayman in a prepared statement. "MTV Tr3s is a great property for us to kick off our mobile social networking push, as we continue to wrap social networking around more MTVN properties on the Anthem platform."
