MTV launches bilingual service Tr3s Mobile

MTV announced the launch of MTV Tr3s Mobile, a cross-carrier, bilingual mobile TV channel targeting the Latino youth market. In addition to spotlighting music videos from both English-language and Spanish-language acts, MTV Tr3s Mobile will feature content from series including "Mi TRL," "Pimpeando," "Descubre & Download," "Dance Adictos," "Wrestling Society X" and  "Road to Menudo."

According to MTV research, 63 percent of Latinos own a media-capable mobile handset, compared to 46 percent of non-Latinos; Latinos are also 23 percent more likely to use their phones to watch video content. "Young Latinos are highly engaged with media and are some of today's biggest mobile media consumers," said MTV Tr3s senior VP and Lucia Ballas-Traynor in a prepared statement. "This is evidenced by the thousands of unique MTV Tr3s viewers who are using SMS or TXTO for shout outs and dedications across a range of our programs. MTV Tr3s Mobile will perfectly suit their lifestyle."
