MySpace expands into mobile space
All the details aren't in at press time, so check the FierceMobileContent Web site for post-News Corp. CTIA Keynote updates, but News Corp. is expected to announce a mobile version of their popular MySpace application. As I understand it, a MySpace member will be able to post photos, text and more to their MySpace page from a mobile phone, and will be able access their friends' profiles as well. UIEvolution is providing the backend services for the company.
MySpace dipped into the wireless waters with Helio when the MVNO launched earlier this year, but it was well-known that was only a short-term exclusive deal. If this is actually a direct-to-consumer play, as I understand it to be, MySpace has the power to do for off-deck D2C content what American Idol did for text messaging. That is to say... make people aware that it exists.
No link yet, so be sure to check back to the FierceMobileContent Web site for more details from the show floor, as they're announced.
