MySpace Mobile launches streaming video
Social networking giant MySpace announced the beta launch of a streaming mobile video initiative in tandem with video infrastructure solutions provider RipCode. MySpace users may now view their uploaded videos and favorite clips via mobile device--according to MySpace, RipCode's On-Demand Video Transcoding technology enables the service to support a series of different handsets regardless of their respective combinations of codecs, bit rates and resolutions, guaranteeing the availability of all user-generated footage as well as the majority of premium content from partners including TMZ, the National Hockey League, National Geographic and The Onion. MySpace adds that because service transcodes video-on-demand, it is no longer necessary to store its complete video library in multiple mobile formats, minimizing hardware, energy and storage demands.
The MySpace Mobile site now receives approximately three billion worldwide page views per month from more than 10 million unique monthly users.
