Napster launches DRM-free MP3 storefront

Tools

Digital music service provider Napster announced the launch of a new DRM-free MP3 download store promising the industry's largest major-label MP3 catalog as well as compatibility with any portable media player or music phone, including Apple's iPhone and iPod. According to Napster, with six million tracks the store is 50 percent larger than rival MP3 storefronts--all individual tracks will carry a price tag of 99 cents, with most complete albums running $9.95 each. The lion's share of MP3s are available at a 256kbps bitrate, and come complete with high-res album art. Napster said it is currently trialing a DRM-free incarnation of its Napster Mobile service as well.
