Tools

Mobile Content Venture, the nationwide mobile DTV effort launched in mid-April by a dozen broadcast groups including NBC, Fox and Cox Media Group, named Fox Networks Group SVP of corporate development Erik Moreno and NBC Universal Digital Distribution SVP of mobile platform development Salil Dalvi co-general managers. According to the MCV, Dalvi and Moreno will be responsible for spearheading product development, network planning and distribution efforts for the service, which plans to utilize existing broadcast spectrum to enable partners to deliver content to mobile devices--both co-GMs will work closely with the venture's executive steering committee, and both will remain in their current roles at NBCU and Fox.

Broadcasters Belo Corp., E.W. Scripps Co., Gannett Broadcasting, Hearst Television, ION Television, Media General, Meredith Corp., Post-Newsweek Stations Inc. and Raycom Media flesh out the Mobile Content Venture partner roster. The alliance will aggregate spectrum to offer live and on-demand video, news, sports and entertainment as well as print content to nearly 150 million U.S. residents, targeting mobile handsets as well as netbooks, DVD players and in-vehicle entertainment systems.  The service is based on the Advanced Television Systems Committee's ATSC-M/H open broadcast standard; in addition to spectrum, the broadcast partners will also commit marketing and capital resources to the JV.
