NBC introduces new mobile sites, widgets

Tools

NBC.com announced it will launch WAP sites for the majority of NBC Entertainment-produced series on the network schedule, boosting its overall mobile multimedia presence to nearly 40 WAP sites and three mobile video channels. In the weeks ahead, NBC will debut 10 new sites spotlighting series including Saturday Night Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, Lipstick Jungle and American Gladiators--in February, NBC.com will also roll out a site-wide send-to-mobile widget enabled for all individual series sites.

"Mobile is the new frontier of the new frontier of digital entertainment," said NBC Digital Entertainment vice president Vivi Zigler in a prepared statement. "We are experimenting and learning as much as we can in this space given the proliferation of cell phones in the market and it is our desire to provide the same high quality entertainment experience our users have come to expect of us."

Not bad for a network that believes the mobile platform is "not that important."
