NBC Universal ankles Apple for Amazon

Tools

NBC Universal announced it will sell episodes of its new fall television series via e-tailer Amazon.com's Unbox digital download service after failing to reach an agreement with Apple to offer the content on iTunes. According to Amazon and NBC Universal, primetime hits like Heroes and The Office are already available on Unbox for $1.99 per episode; free pilot episodes of freshman series like The Bionic Woman and Chuck will also be available beginning September 10, with new episodes added the day after their broadcast premiere. Consumers may also purchase complete seasons of a series in one fell swoop.

Last week, Apple announced it would not sell any of NBC's new fall programs on the iTunes platform. According to Apple, NBC wished to raise its prices for content, an assertion the network denied.
