Media giant NBC Universal and mobile broadcast service provider MobiTV announced the launch of NBC Sports Mobile, a live sports programming channel debuting Thursday via the MobiTV platform. The latest addition to NBC Universal's Digital2Go initiative, introduced in March with the NBC News2Go and NBC2Go channels, NBC Sports Mobile bows with live feed coverage of the 2007 U.S. Open golf tournament from Pennsylvania's Oakmont Country Club. According to NBC Universal, in weeks ahead the channel will also offer mobile coverage and highlights from Wimbledon, the NFL and other sporting events. "We recognize the importance and significance in offering sports enthusiasts live programming and are proud to deliver the very best sports content through our alliance with NBC Universal," said MobiTV VP of content and programming Jeff Bartee in a prepared statement.
