New content deals expand Thumbplay Music to 8M tracks
A month after launching Thumbplay Music, a cloud-based subscription service promising unlimited, on-demand access to content from labels including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music, Thumbplay announced agreements with 20 additional partners, boosting the number of tracks under license to more than 8 million. The mobile entertainment destination said the latest round of deals includes partnerships with Beggars Group, Merge Records, Redeye Distribution and Tunecore--according to Thumbplay, the service now offers tracks from more than 25,000 independent labels and over 75,000 do-it-yourself artists.
Thumbplay Music is presently available on an invitation-only basis on select BlackBerry smartphones--a downloadable Adobe AIR desktop version is also available on both PCs and Macs. Thumbplay said the app will launch across iPhone, Android and additional BlackBerry smartphones within the first quarter. After a free three-day trial period, Thumbplay Music subscriptions will cost $9.99 per month.
