New Motion moves on Index deals
Digital entertainment company New Motion announced agreements with two affiliates of Japanese interactive media firm Index Holdings, acquiring the mobile messaging assets of Mobliss and forming a joint venture with Index Visual & Games. The former deal completes Mobliss' long-planned liquidation of its messaging platform to focus on mobile gaming; financial terms were not disclosed. The latter deal with IVG heralds a joint venture to develop an Asian-themed off-deck mobile entertainment portal for the North American consumer market; while the new U.S.-based company is officially registered under the name The Mobile Entertainment Channel Corporation, it will operate under a consumer brand to be announced at a later date.
"New Motion, Inc. is growing into a diversified, broad-based digital entertainment organization," NMI CEO Burton Katz said in a prepared statement. "These two deals allow us to significantly expand our service offerings and partner with a leading global player in the interactive games and mobile space. Our new scalable interactive messaging capabilities will be invaluable as well in helping us tap into a major new market with outstanding Asian mobile content."
