Gaming giant Nintendo announced the pending launch of the Nintendo 3DS, a handheld gaming device platform promising users a 3D gaming experience without requiring special glasses. Boasting a 3.53-inch top screen and a 3.02-inch bottom touchscreen, the 3DS arrives with three cameras--one inner and two outer--to create 3D effects and snap 3D photos. The device also features a motion sensor, a gyro sensor and a Slide Pad that allows 360-degree analog input. Pricing was not announced--Nintendo expects to release the 3DS by the end of the fiscal year concluding in March.

In addition to 3DS-optimized versions of classic Nintendo titles like Mario Kart, StarFox 64 and Kid Icarus, the handheld will come to market with a wealth of third-party games including Electronic Arts' The Sims 3, Konami's Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Capcom's Resident Evil Revelations and Activision's DJ Hero. Nintendo adds that firms including AQ Interactive, Disney Interactive Studios, Harmonix, Hudson Soft and Sega are also developing 3DS releases, with forthcoming titles including EA's Madden NFL and Square Enix's Final Fantasy.
