Media kingpin News Corp. is readying an edition of its digital news journal The Daily optimized for tablet devices running The DailyGoogle's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system, with an official launch expected in the second quarter. The Daily debuted on Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad earlier this month; speaking at the official launch event, News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch stated the company would eventually extend the publication to other tablet devices and mobile operating systems, but added he expects the iPad will continue to dominate the category for the foreseeable future. "We've made it very clear to Apple that as other tablets get established, we will develop the technology to go on them," Murdoch said.

Called "the first national news publication for the iPad created from scratch" by Murdoch, The Daily features HD video, audio, animated graphics and traditional text context alongside interactive user experiences leveraging the iPad's touchscreen. The Daily also boasts innovations like a television-inspired newsanchor, 360-degree photos, personalization tools, web integration, social media sharing and the "carousel," a central navigation tool including tiles enabling direct access to each story in a given issue. Apple's iTunes digital storefront pushes each new issue to the subscriber's iPad during the morning hours, with new content and updates added throughout the day as breaking news warrants.
