NewsCorp buys 51% of VeriSign's Jamba
NewsCorp's new media acquisitions know no bounds, this time buying a majority stake in VeriSign's Jamba/Jamster service for $188 million. Jamba, of course, is the direct-to-consumer mobile content subscription service, branded as Jamba worldwide and Jamster here in the U.S. It is responsible for the Crazy Frog ringtone phenomenon about which no more will be written here.
NewsCorp will fold the service into its Fox Mobile Entertainment division, run by Lucy Hood. Exactly what that means for Fox's existing D2C portal Mobizzo is as yet unknown, but its certainly something to keep an eye on.
