NFL, DirecTV to offer Sunday Ticket package on mobile
The National Football League and broadcast satellite service provider DirecTV are poised to offer their complete Sunday Ticket live NFL games package to mobile subscribers. Gridiron fans who pay $280 for the Sunday Ticket package, which offers viewers access to all out-of-market NFL games, can now add the $100 supplementary SuperFan package, which simulcasts live matchups to desktop computers--SuperFan includes the Supercast Mobile application, which expands coverage to devices including Apple's iPhone.
The NFL presently offers the NFL Mobile Live application via Sprint. The app--scheduled to debut on the Palm Pre later this summer--initially rolled out prior to the 2008-09 football season, offering subscribers live radio broadcasts of all regular season games as well as information on their favorite teams, fantasy updates, player profiles, photos and video highlights. According to Sprint, the NFL Mobile Live app set the company's single-day record for downloads on Sept. 7, the first Sunday of the NFL campaign. In late October, Sprint touted the addition of live NFL game telecasts, becoming the first U.S. mobile operator to offer live National Football League television coverage. Earlier this year, NFL Mobile Live also featured live coverage of the league's annual rookie draft.
