Nielsen: Mobile extends website reach by 13%

The mobile web extends the audience reach of many popular Internet sites by an average of 13 percent over home PC traffic alone, according to consumer research firm The Nielsen Company, which adds some categories like weather and entertainment experience audience lifts as high as 22 percent. According to data collected from the Nielsen Mobile and Nielsen Online divisions, the mobile web also increases the frequency of website visits--some consumers access weather sites solely via mobile device, while shopping sites generally boast duplicated audiences that shop from both mobiles and home PCs. Nielsen reports that 87 million U.S. mobile users now subscribe to mobile Internet services, with more than one in ten actively using the mobile web each month.
