Nokia acquires microsocial networking firm Plum

Tools

Nokia announced its acquisition of privately-held microsocial networking startup Plum in an effort to expand the Social Location services approach central to its Ovi Store virtual app marketplace. Financial details were not disclosed.  The handset giant said the acquired Plum assets will become part of its Nokia Services unit.

Plum's cloud-based media sharing and messaging service promises to transform websites into private social communities, connecting families, close friends and co-workers with real-world relationships--its solution powers social groups in the travel, education, entertainment, publishing and nonprofit sectors. The firm is backed by Vulcan Capital and Levensohn Venture Partners.
