Nokia acquires social networking service Plazes
Nokia announced an agreement to acquire Plazes, a privately-owned startup providing context-aware social networking services enabling users to plan, record, and share their activities. Financial terms were not disclosed. With Plazes' location-sharing and publishing web platform users may post their current context via laptop or mobile device as well as update their online presence to indicate present past and future whereabouts. According to Nokia, the acquisition bolsters its context-based services with social presence and time-based activity planning features, allowing users to alert friends to what they're doing and where in addition to reviewing past activities, sharing experiences and coordinating future plans with friends.
