Nokia delays Comes With Music's U.S. launch to 2010
Nokia is planning to delay the U.S. launch of its Comes With Music download service to 2010. According to Forbes, a Nokia spokesperson confirmed it will delay the U.S. introduction of the all-you-can-eat digital music effort to next year, despite previously announcing the service would be available to American subscribers in 2009. Nokia did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the decision to postpone Comes With Music's U.S. premiere.
Nokia introduced Comes With Music to U.K. subscribers in Oct. 2008--the service is now available in nine international markets, including Singapore and Brazil. In an April 2009 interview, Nokia's Services and Software unit vice president of product marketing Lenn Pryor admitted the handset giant made some mistakes in introducing Comes With Music: "When we launched in the U.K., the timing was such that we launched it with two devices that were slightly out of date," Pryor said, blaming diminished interest in the music service on the older handsets but adding subsequent launches of the service with Nokia's high-end 5800 touchscreen smartphone "are doing very, very well."
