Nokia to preload new ESPN Hub app on first Windows Phone devices

Tools

Nokia (NYSE:NOK) is teaming with sports media giant ESPN to introduce ESPN Hub, a new mobile application launching in early 2012. The app will come preloaded exclusively on the first Nokia smartphones running Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone operating system.

Developed expressly for Nokia and designed to leverage the Windows Phone platform and Metro user interface, ESPN Hub promises a smoother, more intuitive user interface and a differentiated look and feel from other ESPN mobile solutions. ESPN Hub will offer scores, stats, news, analysis and video highlights spanning more than a dozen sports. ESPN also promises localized content for each international market as well as personalization tools and social media integration bringing in content from fellow fans and ESPN talent.

Nokia took the wraps off its first Windows Phone-powered smartphones earlier this week. The first two devices, called the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, also tout Nokia Drive, a new mapping service that offers free turn-by-turn navigation, and Nokia Music, a streaming service offering users customizable playlists.
