Nokia rebrands Comes With Music under Ovi banner
Nokia (NYSE:NOK) will rebrand its Comes With Music all-you-can-eat service to fit under its Ovi multimedia umbrella. An email sent to subscribers in the U.K. confirms the change, stating the service--which offers DRM-free MP3 files playable across PCs, Macs and personal music players--will now operate as Ovi Music; Nokia adds the transformation will include tweaks like upgraded browsing, searching and downloading as well as improved stability.
Nokia introduced Comes With Music in the U.K. market in late 2008, over time expanding into more than a dozen international markets including Brazil and Mexico. In the fall of 2009, digital music research firm Music Ally reported that fewer than 108,000 subscribers worldwide had signed up for Comes With Music in its first year--analysts blamed inferior handsets and confusing marketing messages for the service's slow start. Upon entering the Indian market, Nokia shelved the Comes With Music brand, instead launching the service as Ovi Music Unlimited.
