Nokia slashes Ovi Store mobile games to 99 cents
Nokia will cut the price of most mobile games for sale in its Ovi Store virtual marketplace to 99 cents (or €1, or the equivalent in
each market's local currency) through Aug. 12. Nokia publisher partners like EA, Gameloft, PopCap and Fishlabs are all participating in the promotion, with discounted titles including Doodle Jump, The Sims 3, Fieldrunners, Zuma's Revenge, Planet Riders and Armageddon Squadron. (The complete list is here.)
Nokia opened the Ovi Store in late May 2009--about a year later, the handset maker said the mobile content marketplace is now averaging 1.7 million downloads per day. Speaking at the Nokia Annual General Meeting in May 2010, Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said there are now localized versions of the Ovi Store in 18 countries, supporting 30 different languages. Nokia announced an Ovi Store makeover in late March, promising consumers more efficient access from their desktop or handset--new additions include a mobile device selector for users who aren't logged in, immediately identifying which apps and games are available for different phones. In addition, Ovi Store now boasts a five-star user rating system (up from three), making it easier to separate the most favorably reviewed applications.
