Nokia tops 10 million Ovi Mail accounts
Nokia announced its free Ovi Mail messaging service now tops 10 million accounts worldwide, roughly 18 months after the initiative first launched. Ovi Mail enables users to create email accounts directly from their Nokia device, with no PC access required--the service is targeted to consumers in emerging markets where traditional fixed Internet coverage is limited or non-existent. According to Nokia, Ovi Mail has proven particularly successful in areas like Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, China, Kenya, Nigeria and Thailand, but adds the service is also growing among users with other email accounts because their Ovi ID affords them access to the full range of Ovi mobile services.
