NTT DoCoMo acquires stake in NTV

Tools

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo announced the acquisition of 760,500 shares (roughly 3.0 percent of total issued and outstanding stock) in Nippon Television Network, an investment of $112 million. DoCoMo and NTV first teamed on content development in February 2006, two months later launching the content fund D.N. Dream Partners, an $84 million concern responsible for hits including the NTV animated series "Sasami." NTV also provides programming for DoCoMo's mobile TV service.

The deal is the second of its kind for NTT DoCoMo. In January 2006, the carrier acquired a 2.6 percent stake in another national Japanese broadcaster, Fuji Television Network.
