NTT DoCoMo in 3G content talks with Smart Communications
Smart Communications, the wireless carrier subsidiary of Philippine Long Distance Telephone, announced it is in talks to license content from Japan's largest mobile operator, NTT DoCoMo, to facilitate its 3G service rollout. Speaking to reporters at the ITU Telecom World trade show in Hong Kong, Smart Communications wholesale business group head Roger Quevedo said the deal would depend on the Philippine market's readiness for handset employment of DoCoMo's imode system. Quevedo added handset prices are also hampering Philippine 3G deployment: "Until such time 3G handset cost falls to $100 each, it would be difficult to push the rollout of 3G in our country," he said.
