Obama to nominate Genachowski for FCC chair
President-elect Barack Obama is poised to nominate his technology adviser Julius Genachowski to chair the Federal Communications Commission. Citing a Democratic source close to the Obama transition team, The Wall Street Journal reports that Genachowski, who worked at the FCC during the Clinton administration, is now the favorite to replace current FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, although a spokesperson for the Obama team declined comment. The 46-year-old Genachowski is a former Harvard Law School classmate of Obama--for eight years he served in various executive positions with media and e-commerce firm IAC/InterActive Corp., and more recently co-founded Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm LaunchBox Digital.
