OMVC issues mobile digital TV device profile guidelines
The Open Mobile Video Coalition has released its device profile guidelines to consumer electronics manufacturers, giving them a baseline technical framework to build products supporting mobile DTV programming. The OMVC's Mobile DTV Forum (which represents consumer device and broadcast equipment manufacturers as well as software and middleware providers) and its Technology Advisory Group (made up of broadcasters from member companies) jointly developed the guidelines. Ninety-six U.S. stations are now on-the-air with mobile digital television services, a number expected to grow to 126 stations across 48 markets by the end of 2011, the OMVC recently announced.
