Open Mobile Video Coalition expands membership
Broadcaster association the Open Mobile Video Coalition announced the addition of nine television station groups, expanding its station roster from 281 to 422. The new members are Cox Television, Dispatch Broadcast Group, Freedom Broadcasting, LIN TV Corp., Meredith Corp., Media General, Post-Newsweek Stations, Raycom Media and Schurz Communications. The OMVC also announced the addition of the Association of Public Television Stations, a nonprofit corporation providing public advocacy and other services for the 361 public television stations across the United States.
The OMVC was founded to accelerate the development of mobile digital broadcast television, calling for parallel development of mobile video standards, devices and business models. The group said it has received significant interest from hardware and transmission manufacturers and continues to plan active dialogs throughout the remainder of 2007. Membership in the Open Mobile Video Coalition is open to all U.S.-based television broadcast stations.
