Openwave closes WiderWeb acquisition

Tools

Media software provider Openwave Systems announced its acquisition of mobile web access solutions developer WiderWeb Limited, a deal comprising $5 million in cash and a potential $4 million contingent earn-out. Openwave will integrate WiderWeb's solutions into its mobile gateway infrastructure, promising operators an expanded range of content choices via full Internet webpages. "It is imperative that mobile operators and content providers ensure they are properly positioned to leverage off-net opportunities," Openwave senior VP of products and marketing Peter Galvin said in a prepared statement. "The content reformatting technology from WiderWeb can dramatically improve the user experience when accessing Internet content on mass-market mobile devices."
