Opera: Evening hours dominate mobile web browsing

Tools

Users worldwide favor the hours between the 8 p.m. and midnight for the bulk of their mobile web usage, according to browser developer Opera Software's latest State of the Mobile Web Report. Evenings represent the highest level of Opera Mini use across all major international markets, while the hours between midnight and 8 a.m. (when most consumers are asleep) account for the smallest percentage of use. Among Opera Mini's top 10 international markets, consumers in the U.S. are most likely to browse the mobile web between midnight and 4 a.m., while their U.K. counterparts are most likely to browse between 4 a.m. and noon. Opera adds there is little difference in data consumption between weekdays and weekends.

Opera Mini users totaled 61.4 million in May 2010, a 4.2 percent month-over-month increase and a 142 percent year-over-year jump. Mini users viewed 28.3 billion mobile web pages in May, up 7.7 percent month-over-month and 193.8 percent year-over-year.
