Palm App Catalog up and running after weekend outage
Palm said its Palm App Catalog storefront is again fully operational following a weekend glitch that made it virtually impossible for users to download applications to their webOS-based smartphones. "If you've experienced any issues downloading or updating apps from the Palm App Catalog recently, rest assured that Palm is actively working to remedy the situation," writes Palm product management staffer Joe Hayashi on the Official Palm Blog. "If you've purchased an app, the transaction has been properly recorded and as soon as this issue is resolved, you'll be able to access all apps you've purchased (or, in the case of free apps, requested to download)." Palm did not specify the reasons behind the outage.
Although Palm App Catalog is again functional, some webOS developers took exception to how the device manufacturer handled the situation, venting their frustrations in the Comments section below Hayashi's post. "My apps are getting tons of negative reviews for failed installs," one developer writes. "Please post a message in the catalog, so people know it's not the individual apps fault, but the catalog overall." Another adds "This is just great. My app is getting ratings of 0 stars because the download fails. Can these be removed?"
