PBS Kids plays around in the App Store
The Public Broadcasting Service's PBS Kids unit announced the launch of Super Why! and PBS Kids Photo Factory, two new applications for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. Super Why!, developed in conjunction with PBS's Raising Readers initiative and priced at $2.99, boasts four literacy games featuring characters from the Super Why! television series, including Alpha Pig, Princess Presto, Wonder Red and the title hero. The games focus on the alphabet, rhyming, spelling and writing. The free PBS Kids Photo Factory features art from 11 series including Arthur, Caillou and Dragon Tales--children can add the characters to their family photos and share their creations via iPhoto, email, Facebook and Twitter.
PBS Kids targets viewers in the preschool set. Previous PBS Kids apps for iPhone include Curious George Coloring Book, Martha Speaks Dog Party and Mister Rogers Make a Journal.
