Photobucket: Mobile video uploads increase 14x since late 2010

Consumers are relying on traditional video cameras with far less frequency as mobile devices emerge as their preferred means to capture and upload video content according to data published by photo and video sharing service Photobucket.

Total video uploads across the web and mobile increased 3.5 times between July 2010 to July 2011, Photobucket reports--total video uploads from mobile devices alone are up 14 times since December 2010, with 45 percent of consumers now using their mobile device to capture video at least once a week. Seventeen percent capture mobile video at least once a day, and 9 percent shoot mobile video clips multiple times each day.

In all, Photobucket reports close to 18 million unique monthly visitors via its mobile website and mobile apps. Mobile photo uploads now top 25 million each month, up 5 times year-over-year.

Forty-six percent of the 2,500 consumers responding to Photobucket's annual Summer Photo Usage survey report that they've never used any mobile app for capturing images--conversely, among respondents who do use mobile photo apps, more than 20 percent report accessing the app at least once if not multiple times each day. "This data suggests that there is a high threshold for adoption of mobile apps, but once adopted, there is fanatical use," Photobucket stated.

Photobucket now touts more than 100 million registered members. Users upload more than 4 million images and videos each day.
