PocketGear pockets $15 million in Series B funding

Tools

Cross-platform mobile app store and content marketplace PocketGear announced the close of a $15 million Series B funding round led by Trident Capital, with participation from BlackBerry Partners Fund. PocketGear offers more than 140,000 premium and free downloads, boasting relationships with over 32,000 developers and powering mobile media storefronts for over 40 distribution partners worldwide. The firm said the new funding with support plans to scale its technical operations, expand its sales and marketing team, and increase its global reach--earlier this year, PocketGear acquired smartphone applications provider Handango, expanding a network of direct-to-consumer app storefronts that also includes SymbianGear.com, AndroidGear.com, RIMGear.com, Smartphone.net and PalmGear.com.
