Premium streaming TV coming to Xfinity Mobile app
Digital services giant Comcast released version 3.0 of its Xfinity Mobile app for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, iPod touch and iPad,
touting a number of significant enhancements including a "My Account" feature enabling subscribers to manage their Comcast services on the go. Customers can view their current invoice, make a one-time payment or set up automatic payments. In addition, Xfinity Mobile 3.0 integrates with Comcast's Xfinity TV app, offering access to program listings, channel-changing controls, remote DVR programming and On Demand library browsing. Also new: iPad optimization that leverages the tablet's advanced features and larger real estate to display email and voicemail messages.
Writing on the Comcast Voices blog, vice president of product management Raghu Rao states future iterations of Xfinity Mobile will incorporate features like streaming premium TV content. Rao did not provide additional details, except to note the streaming service is "coming soon," adding Comcast plans a number of additional upgrades in 2011.
