Qik Video premieres on Sprint EVO 4G

Live mobile video streaming platform provider Qik announced the introduction of an upgraded Qik Video solution launching in tandem with Sprint's (NYSE:S) new HTC EVO 4G smartphone, promising two-way videoconferencing as well as video mail and social network sharing. According to Qik, the new Video Chat feature automatically determines whether the other party's phone contains the Qik app--if so, both users can begin their video dialogue, and if not, the other user receives an SMS containing a link to screen the video live on their phone's browser. Qik takes a similar approach to Video Mail, sending a text enabling non-users to connect to the clip. Beyond uploading video content to sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Qik Video includes the new My Videos feature, compiling all video content in a single place to simplify sharing.

Qik notes that all features are free through July 15, at which time the firm will roll out a premium service priced at $4.99 per month while still maintaining a more stripped-down free version as well. Both the standard and premium services will offer unlimited Qik-to-Qik Video Chat, live streaming to the web and live sharing, but the premium version will also boast features like unlimited video mail, automatic downloads to the user's computer and priority support.
