Qualcomm acquires Digital Fountain
Qualcomm has quietly acquired mobile broadcast and IPTV software solutions provider Digital Fountain. Financial terms of the deal are unknown--Qualcomm has yet to make an official statement, although a brief statement on the Digital Fountain website confirms the acquisition. Seeking Alpha contends Digital Fountain's value to Qualcomm lies in its proprietary DF Raptor technology, which has been adopted by standards bodies including 3GPP, DVB and IETF. According to Digital Fountain, its software optimizes the delivery of digital media over any network, and is presently in use by mobile carriers, IPTV providers and national defense agencies. Digital Fountain partners include Nokia, Adobe, Cisco, KDDI and Sony.
