Qualcomm acquires mobile web solutions provider iSkoot
Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) has acquired mobile web solutions provider iSkoot Technologies, a deal giving the wireless chipset and software technology firm a push data services platform, a social network aggregation solution and voice 2.0 services. Financial terms were not disclosed. iSkoot partners with device manufacturers and mobile operators to bring social networks and messaging services to handsets, promising to reduce data bandwidth usage and boost phone battery life in the process. The firm's Kalaida Platform moves tasks via managed proxy servers that transcode and aggregate traffic, effectively slashing the frequency and size of data transmissions.
iSkoot is now a unit of the Qualcomm Innovation Center subsidiary, which focuses on open-source software efforts. Moving forward, the iSkoot team will emphasize continued support of its existing customers, integrating its offerings with the Qualcomm products portfolio and developing open-source data management initiatives.
