Qualcomm, Gameloft join forces on high-definition Android games

Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) will team with digital gaming publisher Gameloft to create enhanced mobile titles for Android devices. Existing Gameloft releases like Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles have leveraged Qualcomm's Adreno graphics processing unit--per terms of the new deal, the firms will expand their relationship across Qualcomm's family of Snapdragon dual-core processors, delivering titles like SpiderMan Total Mayhem HD, Real Football 2011 HD, GT Racing: Motor Academy HD and Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus that incorporate advanced multimedia capabilities like Dolby 5.1, SRS and other surround sound technologies, Adobe Flash 10 hardware acceleration and video accelerators for full HD 1080p encode and decode.

In related Gameloft news, the publisher has inked a multi-platform licensing agreement with Epic Games to integrate the game engine technology provider's Unreal Engine 3 solution. Unreal Engine 3 touts enhanced graphics and features optimized for platforms including iOS, Xbox 360 and PlayStation3; Gameloft will incorporate the platform into two titles slated for release this year and two more to launch in 2012.
