Qualcomm moves into off portal

Tools

Qualcomm Internet Solutions is making off portal inroads with its latest product debut: BREW BrandXtend, which is targeted at large brands that want to deliver content directly to the consumer. BrandXtend leverages the technology Qualcomm acquired when it purchased elata in August 2005.

BrandXtend is different than Qualcomm's BREW Zone because it is geared to brands and affinities, while BREW Zone is intended for carriers that want to sell their content through their website or via retail cards.

Qualcomm's BrandXtend will likely compete with some other well-known content management firms such as Motricity, which has racked up a number of deals with big-name brands such as Universal Music, MTV and BET. "We think we can bring something to the table," said Mitch Oliver, vice president of solutions and marketing, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "We have a more robust solution that is better integrated with our operator partners."
