Qualcomm teams with TIM for multi-platform app store
Qualcomm announced an agreement with Brazilian mobile operator TIM to introduce a multi-platform applications storefront supporting Java, Brew, Flash and Android, with plans to expand to Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian and LiMo. The TIM App Store--scheduled to go live in the first quarter of 2010--will be offered across the carrier's complete device portfolio; its 40 million subscribers can download the app store client via TIM's WAP portal, or through their Web Store.
Qualcomm's Plaza Retail solution will power the TIM App Store, promising a uniform shopping experience and effective content merchandizing including recommendations technology. Qualcomm and TIM add that they will offer Brazilian developers a series of workshops in November to pitch the new business model and the benefits offered by the solution.
