Qualcomm unveils multi-standard mobile TV chip
Qualcomm unveiled a single-chip Universal Broadcast Modem (UBM) device that supports three leading mobile TV broadcast standards: it's own FLO technology; the European, home-grown DVB-H technology; and one-segment Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB-T). The chip helps bridge these disparate technologies, according to the company, but is not compatible with GSM devices. Qualcomm expects to launch the first samples of the chip in the first quarter of 2007.
