Rebranded Verizon Video touts on-demand access via Android phones
Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) is rebranding its on-demand V Cast Video service under the Verizon Video aegis, offering current television episodes, live streaming sports and news events optimized for 4G LTE and select 3G smartphones. Digital services firm RealNetworks, which has powered V Cast Video since early 2009, will remain the engine behind the Verizon Video effort.

Verizon Video boasts access to more than 250 full-length episodes from broadcast networks, including ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as cable mainstays like ESPN, MTV, Comedy Central, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. Customers who subscribe to Verizon Video are also extended access to premium video content in conjunction with the operator's NFL Mobile, which includes NBC's marquee Sunday Night Football telecast, NFL Network's NFL RedZone spinoff (which features all scoring plays and other on-field turning points) and round-the-clock NFL Network coverage.
Verizon Video is available now to download from Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market. Verizon subscribers may sample the service by viewing free NFL and IndyCar clips--after the preview period, Verizon Video is billed at a subscription price of $10.00 per month. Customers can sample the app for 24 hours for a price of $3.00. Verizon Wireless adds that current V Cast Video customers will be prompted to update the app the next time it launches--post-upgrade, it will appear under the Verizon Video brand.
