Report: 71% of m-gaming revs from on-portal
According to a recent report from Telephia, 59 percent of mobile games played are downloaded by the subscriber, while preloaded games account for 39 percent of games played. That leaves 8 percent of games played over the mobile Internet. Not surprisingly, 71 percent of all download mobile game revenues are from on-portal game purchases, while 29 percent come from off-portal. Game-purchasing criteria is still led by price with 59 percent of respondents flagging it as the primary incentive, while free trials, familiarity with the game's brand, graphics and difficulty round out the top five reasons. A recent Jupiter report predicts the mobile gaming industry will rake in $17.6 billion in revenues by 2011.
