Report: Music phone shipments top MP3 players
Worldwide shipments of music phones exceeded half a billion units in 2007, outnumbering shipments of personal media players like the iPod by close to 300 million units, according to new data released by market analysis firm MultiMedia Intelligence. Defining music phones as handsets with two essential features--music codec functionality (e.g., MP3, AAC, etc.) and a memory slot enabling the user to carry a personal music library--MultiMedia Intelligence forecasts mobile music services like ringtones, ringbacks, full-track downloads and streaming media solutions will yield combined revenues in excess of $6 billion in 2008.
